How To Get On Page One Of Google

The elusive question asked by the majority of the internet community is: how to get on page one of Google!

Let’s face it, even those of us who loathe Google as a viable, long-term marketing strategy for internet business, depend on them to an extent.

——————————————————

More than 60% of online search queries are handled by Google. That means sixty percent of the population of internet users are going to this search engine for results. Online merchants, publishers, artists, companies and more are scrambling to figure out how to get on page on of Google, in hopes of getting floods of traffic to their websites!

Unfortunately, there is a HUGE problem….actually staying on the first page of Google.

Throughout this series, I will present to you on a regular basis, common practices that can help your search engine placement, as well as advice that will help you to avoid having your business decimated by Google. Here is the first tip:

Do NOT depend only Google for traffic

Ask any of the possible million website owners/companies that fell victim to Google’s somewhat recent (March 2011) Panda Update. This was an (undisclosed) update to Google’s search algorithm, which is the software “code” that determines how their search engine returns information  to a computer user who is searching for a certain keyword(s) or information.

When the update occurred, many HUGE websites that received millions of unique visitors every month, noticed drops in traffic up to 90+ percent (ezinearticles experienced a 10-35% loss in traffic that affected their business significantly)! Could you imagine your website losing up to 90% of the traffic that it has; the traffic that came directly from Google?

“Never put your eggs in one basket” holds extremely true with your website and your audience or customers. Google tends to update its algorithm often, and they are not quick to tell the public what the changes were, how the changes might affect any particular industry, demographic, niche, etc.

In summary, the best thing to do if you would like to know how to get on page one of Google, is to first understand how Google ranks websites, how the updates of the past have affected businesses negatively as well as positively and how Google’s algorithm changes cause the “SEO rules” to change constantly, and in an unpredictable ways. In other words, the steps that can cause your website to show up on the first page of Google today, may cause you to be on page number 5,000 – next month.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of the series: “How To Get On Page One Of Google“, as I will discuss common practices and misconceptions, for ranking on the “first page” of the search engines (including Google).

Happy Computing!
